The Our Daily Bread devotional for today is especially appropriate.  The sad and terrible news is that Carol Trevey’s grandson Shane died unexpectedly yesterday. He was 26 years old. Shane lived with Carol, and she was a major support in his life. Her loss is unspeakable.

Carol and her family are in shock and deep grief.  They ask that you please refrain from phone calls at this time so they can attend to each other and necessary matters.  Funeral arrangements are pending.

I bid your prayers for Carol, and for Shane’s family and friends. Carol will need the strong support of her CTR family in the weeks and months to come.

Such sudden tragedy and loss brings with it the question “Where is God in all this?”  There are no easy answers, but today’s Our Daily Bread is timely for us, and it touches upon at least the beginning of an answer. As Jesus wept at the grave of Lazarus, so he weeps with us now.  And he is Resurrection and Life — the one who, by his death and rising, has defeated death forevermore!

As providence would have it, the appointed reading from Revelation 21 for this Sunday is also helpful, for it holds before us the powerful image of life in God’s presence, where there is no more mourning or death, and he wipes every tear from our eyes

See you Sunday!
